For a long time, I have held the above quote as one of my all-time favourites (I even have a framed print of it on my wall which was kindly gifted to me). There’s something about it that totally resonates with the reader inside me while simultaneously inspiring my inner writer, because I know myself how often I have read something which utterly connects with my thoughts or emotions in a way I could never express to a loved one.
If one day I could create something akin to what Bjӧrk alludes to (be it a novel, poem or otherwise) which someone, somewhere in the world was able to take some nuance of comfort, motivation or understanding from, then I would think myself pretty darn lucky and certainly very happy.
Are there any quotes that inspire or resonate with you?
You already do that. I’ve identified with emotions in your poems that I can never express to someone else – words that speak to me and make me feel connected when I otherwise wouldn’t.
In answer to your question about resonating quotes, a dozen sprang to mind, but as I’m typing this I’m looking at a picture my daughter bought for me recently. It says ‘I live in my own little world, but it’s okay – they know me here!’ Yes, the old ones are the best! But I thought it incredibly sweet she would think of me and buy me a gift – that’s inspiring in itself 🙂
That’s incredibly kind, Mel. Thank you!
As for your answer to my question; I love it! Not only is that a great quote but the connection to your daughter makes it all the more endearing 🙂
I can see why it would inspire you, and I most definitely think your writing will touch someone, you have incredible talent to weave words with such powerful emotion!
Thinking about it, I don’t actually have a quote that I think of. Over the years I have read many that motivate me, and I think they’ve now all become a jumble in my head 😀
I really appreciate that, thank you! 🙂
I know what you mean. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve heard or read something and thought, “I must remember that”, before promptly forgetting! 😉
What a beautiful quote. It really touched me. I think that’s what I hope, that when I write, I connect with that part of someone else. Thank you for the beautiful post!
That’s lovely, and you’re very welcome. I’ve always loved the quote so I’m glad it resonate with you too 🙂
“There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed” – Ernest Hemingway
This is one of my favourite quotes, mainly because of the contradiction within it. on the face of it, i guess you could say writing is easy. I don’t have a hard time putting words onto paper. Allowing yourself to feel what you write however, can be the scariest part of all. In my opinion, the most sucessful writers are the ones brave enough to open themselves to (and embrace) the dizzying highs and crashing lows of life, then put that into words so that others may also find the strength to explore all that life’s emotions have to offer.
Very eloquently put. I love that quote as well, it captures the bittersweet joy of writing perfectly, I think.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
“If you only read the books that everyone else is reading, you can only think what everyone else is thinking.”
― Haruki Murakami, Norwegian
I love that quote. Thanks for sharing 🙂
It’s a great quote. Books are a perfect way to find out more about yourself as a person.
Hmmm, inspiring quotes… I have a couple, but I think that I like this one best:
‘What doesn’t kill me should run.’ 😉
Hugz
I haven’t heard that one before but I love it! Thanks for sharing it 🙂
I’ve recently started getting into Bjork. She has some really great quotes about life. Thanks for sharing this one; I’ve never seen it before.
You’re very welcome, I’m glad you liked it. I’ve been a big Bjork fan for a while, both her music and her outlook.
Such an accurate quote.
I think one that resonates with me the most is Lewis Carroll’s, “I knew who I was this morning, but I’ve changed a few times since then.” from Alice and Wonderland. It’s humorous, but strangely accurate of me. As for inspiring quotes, I’ve got a mental collection of about 140. 😉
I really like that; thanks for sharing! 🙂
